PREP Team Member Spotlight- Krista Klein

My name is Krista Klein, I am 21 years old and a senior here at SDSU majoring in Public Health. I am a Nutrition and Physical Activity Peer Health Educator, we are trained specifically to give presentations on how to have a healthy diet and about healthy eating on campus. I am also in SDSU’s chapter of Global Brigades in which I am our student representative to the College of Arts and Letters Council. With Global Brigades I travel to Honduras over winter and spring break to volunteer and work on projects such as building clean-burning stoves, water sanitation development and even basic medical care for Hondurans in rural villages. I am a Tutor-Mentor with the International Student Center. I am co-chair for the luminary committee for Relay for Life this semester at SDSU. I was a Clinical-Care Extender at Palomar-Pomerado Hospital.
I am interested in helping to plan programs promoting nutrition and healthy eating, programs dealing with alcohol use/abuse, body image, public speaking, volunteer work, time-management, I’m willing to help with any program/idea you may have!

PREP Team Member Spotlight- Stephanie Van Stralen

My name is Stephanie Van Stralen. I am 20 years old and a junior here at SDSU. I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Counseling and Social Change. I am a Peer Educator at Counseling and Psychological Services (C&PS). My role includes being actively involved in outreach programs on campus through the counseling center, work with students on academic probation and give tours of The Center for Wellbeing (a free relaxing place for students in the Counseling Center) as well. As a C&PS Peer Educator I am trained to give stress management presentations and am trained in motivational interviewing. I am educated in all that the Counseling Center has to offer and think it would be great if the students knew what was available to them as well. I am also very interested in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), and am currently a Peer Health Educator in training for AOD. One idea that I believe would make the education in stress management fun would be to put on a presentation that is very interactive and end it with a relaxation exercise and refer them to set up a tour of the Center for Wellbeing. Another idea I would like to see an AOD presentation that would also be fun and interactive using the alcohol goggles or   so the students can participate. I have the resources to create presentations in both of these areas and am excited to help in any way I can!
